Data coding – Abacus compiles and generates cleaned data files after validating, cataloguing, editing, open ended coding and merging multiple survey instrument outputs into one single data set or table.

Data cleansing – Abacus research analysts follow a methodical process for preparing the data for high end statistical analysis. Typically we study the survey instrument and the data set and based on the data collected we check for errors, incorrect and missing values.

Data tabulation – We work with primary research outputs in SPSS, ASCII, Excel, Custom Tables, mrTables, Quantum and Wincross for banners and cross tabs.

Data reduction - Using factor analysis, we minimize the number of variables by merging those which highly correlate among themselves. After which the merged variables are used for further analysis.

Statistical analysis – We specialize in delivering statistical analysis to cater to client’s needs such as,

  • Canonical Correlation - With the help of canonical correlation we can take two sets of variables and show what is common amongst the two sets. Case Study 1
Client description The client is one of the world’s leading research companies in marketing research and brand consulting. Their expertise spans from communications assessment and media evaluation to brand performance monitoring and marketing accountability.
Project description It was a dipstick study in 25 countries with a total sample size of 12000 respondents involving around 4000+ brands. Abacus Market Analytics was asked to start the data validation program within 7 days after field work started. Each country had separate data tables in XLS and MS-word format with a set of 25 Quanvert database - 1 for each country and one combine Quanvert file. Abacus was also responsible for generating country wise Jaccard Scores on different cuts and Brand Image profile (BIP) charts.
Abacus deliverables Abacus Market Analytics did the following things:
  • Abacus analytics team prepared a common card design for all the countries
  • A master brand list was generated to streamline the process
  • Data validation program was designed for each country
  • Constant interactions happened with the fieldwork agencies for any discrepancy in the data
  • Last year data was merged with the current year data for drawing comparisons & trends
  • We also merged CAPI data with PAPI as two countries data were captured in CAPI in different layouts
  • The final deliverable was sent to the client using Quantum / SPSS
Benefits This was the first project with the client and Abacus completed the entire project in a very systematic way with resource strength of 2 data processing analyst and a manager. The timelines of finishing the project was tough and Abacus team was able to give client ready output well within the tough timelines.
Case Study 2
Client description The end client is a diversified pharmaceutical and health care giant.
Project description The objective of the study was to track the usage of 5 different product categories of the company. The survey data was captured in grid format for all 5 categories for each respondent.
Abacus deliverables Key requirements of the projects met by Abacus Market Analytics team were:
  • Abacus team sent the data cleaning script to the client
  • Generated complex tables as per client requirement
  • Final output was delivered in different tables based on various factors like household income, number of family members, demographics, etc.
  • The total number of respondents were displayed as baseline and calculations were done on total volume used by these respondents for various brands
  • Volumetric Share Calculation was done along with volume share of each category on different cuts

Multi level process used to simplify the analysis task:

In Level 1 process
o We stacked the data category wise, i.e. 5 categories 2 brands per category (5*2=10); and generated a counter within the process to identify the categories.

In Level 2 process
o We stacked the data member wise, i.e. 8 members per category for each brand.

Case Study 3
Client description The client is of the well known brands in the soft-drink industry.
Project description This was a Brand Pack Price study on Carbonated Soft Drink in Morocco The object was to evaluate price sensitivities of various SKU’s in Carbonated Soft Drink category in Morocco thus enabling the client to align product portfolio to maximize revenue and/ or market share. The main object was to explore the possibility of introduction of new packs and enable the client to analyze various ‘What-if’ scenarios.
Abacus deliverables We used techniques like Extended Gabor Granger, Price sensitivity meter along with regular data analysis to meet the research objectives.
Benefits Benefits Abacus Market Analytics provided analysis outputs like EGG which went as a direct feed into the model (CBC) calibration. Analysis from various other sections went into better understanding of the market. Rigorous analysis was done on Brands section and Imagery section and we provided the final deliverable in normal CSVs at various cuts and also in SPSS format.

The various techniques used were as below:

PSM - is an economical technique that can be a stand-alone measure or readily incorporated into some other piece of research. PSM may reveal a discrepancy between manufacturer and consumer price or value perceptions. It may on the other hand, be that the manufacturer is unwilling (or even unable) to set a price until he knows the optimum range within which potential consumers would be prepared to pay.

A relatively simple approach to the estimation of demand elasticity involves the testing of a series of different prices for a product or service, and measuring change in interest or purchase intention at each price

By aggregating the responses across the total sample, a `demand curve` can be plotted to show the relationship between price and purchase intent (or volume share if the appropriate questions have been asked).
